Early one rainy, shitty Sunday morning at the Bristol Docks, ‘Team Fearless’ tested their mettle in the annual Dragon Boat Festival Race to raise money for CLIC Sargent and Children’s Hospice South West. The event saw a selection of Bristol’s hardiest businesses racing head-to-head in longboats to determine who was the most mental.
We donned Viking hats and set about the business of paddling like nutters. Siobhan (positioned precariously at the front of the boat) acted as our drummer to set the pace. We emerged from the boat exhilarated, tired, soaked to the bone…and utterly frozen. Fortunately some bright spark brought along two gazebos and a barbecue, so we defrosted on hot dogs and coffee – just enough to keep us energized and ready for Races 2 and 3.
What a result! Over £3,000 raised by Team Fearless and 16th out of 27 in the final race standings. Bring on next year’s event!
